Arthur and Rachel Cadman are a married team who design and make beautiful contemporary hardwood furniture. They describe their work as 'functional art' as sculptural form and practicality are blended into unique pieces which can be both admired and used.
They both grew up in creative families and in the year 2000 felt it was a natural progression to blend their talents and set up a workshop together. By fusing Rachels' accomplished art, craft and design skills with Arthurs' furniture college and traditional cabinetmaking experience, they create individually hand crafted pieces, either speculatively or working with the ideas and dimensions required by their customers. Their style has a strong accent on flowing lines and sensual curves and they enjoy working in a creative atmosphere and in harmony with their choice of natural resource. Although contemporary, their work is influenced by the Art Nouveau period, Arts and Crafts movement and from styles of the Orient. Inspiration comes from personality, humour, form and nature for their more unusual creations. Sourced only through native sustainable woodland management - ash, cherry, oak, sycamore and walnut are combined with unusual timbers such as spalted beech, tiger oak and bog oak. They use environmentally friendly natural oils and waxes and by using local timbers, keep their carbon footprint to a minimum.

“We really enjoyed meeting this vibrant and enthusiastic couple. They have a plan, energy and enthusiasm to carry it out, and a whole pile of talent to make it work. The future of bespoke furniture-making is in safe hands!”
